What is HIV?
The cause of the HIV disease is a virus of the same name.
Like any other viruses, HIV can only survive in a living cell. The cells that HIV needs to survive are white blood cells. HIV can enter the human body in three main ways:
- Transfusion of blood and blood products
- Unsafe sex
- From a mother with HIV to her newborn
