In girls, the disease manifests itself as mild, watery, and milky discharge with an unusual fishy smell. The color of these discharges can be between gray green and yellow. Other symptoms of the disease include pain, burning and itching around the vagina and vulva, burning of urine, pain in sexual intercourse, bleeding after sex and abdominal pain.
Complications: An important complication of this disease is the likelihood of preterm labor in pregnant women. For boys, this infection usually does not have complications.
Diagnosis and treatment: Because the symptoms are very similar to gonorrhea and chlamydia, your doctor may send a sample of the discharge to the laboratory. Treatment is with antibiotics. Simultaneous treatment of sexual partner(s) is essential.
