'She’s my wife'

'I can have sex any time'

“He comes late in the night, very drunk, leaves me without food and expects me to have sex with him every day and any time he wishes to.” These are the words of 17-year-old Maureen Banda. According to the Daily Nation, Maureen is taking her husband John Chulu (20) to court asking for reconciliation and court counsel. She told the Ndola local court that he demands sex and she wants the court to rule if that is allowed or not.

The two have been married for two years. She told the court that John leaves in the morning and doesn’t leave her with any money for food. He returns home drunk, late at night, and expects to have sex with her as many times as he wishes.

The Daily Nation newspaper reports that John told the court that he has every right to have sex with his wife at any time, in any state of mind and at any place that he feels is appropriate. He claimed that it is his right to have sex whenever he wants to ‘gain satisfaction’. He said he doesn't care whether his wife is comfortable or willing as he thinks her role is to be obedient and respect his decisions.

There are still men out there who believe a wife is their property. The law says otherwise. Your rights as a girl are equal to the rights of a guy. Your husband cannot demand sex from you whenever he wants, tell you how to live or control you in any way.
