Pregnant adolescent and young women with disabilities, often face barriers to access maternal health information and services, regarding antenatal, natal and postnatal care including basic obstetric care ( safe delivery services ) and comprehensive emergency obstetric care (caesarean section and blood transfusion services ). Barriers to access include lack of information on the importance of using maternal health services and lack of accessible services.

Young people with disabilities have the right to get married and to have children. They should have access to accessible services and messages through the premarital counseling programmes, including information about family planning, pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care. If they got pregnant they should visit health facilities for antenatal care, should deliver in a qualified health facility to ensure safe delivery, receive information about baby care and breast feeding and comply with the scheduled postnatal visits and child vaccination schedule.
