Symptoms: Jaundice, blurry urine, clear stool, prolonged fatigue and weakness.
Complications: Most people recover after hepatitis B, however, in less than 1% of cases of acute hepatitis, the liver damage is so severe that the patient dies. The chronic form of hepatitis may progress to complete destruction of the liver. Liver failure and liver cancer are other complications of this disease.
Diagnosis and treatment: There are some useful treatments for hepatitis B. In the acute form, these therapies help to heal faster. In the chronic form, these drugs, though they do not remove the virus, control the disease and reduce the number of viruses in the blood so that the likelihood of transmission through the infected person will be greatly reduced.
To prevent hepatitis B, there is an effective vaccine that is given in three doses. In Iran, this vaccine is given to all children from birth. If you are in doubt about your vaccination history, apply for the vaccine. The vaccine is administered free of charge to people at risk for the virus at health centers. The first and second doses interval is one to two months and the third to first interval is six months.
