Raped By Her Older Brother

A 15-year-old boy has appeared in a Harare court after he allegedly raped his nine-year-old sister. The court heard the boy raped his sister on multiple occasions between December 2015 and December 2016.


According to The Herald, the children’s bedrooms were next to each other. The boy would sneak into his sister’s bedroom at night. The girl told a friend in December last year and the abuse was reported to the police.


Rape is not always done by a stranger. Often, the victim knows their rapist. It could be a friend or partner, but it can also be a family member.


When you are raped by someone you know, it may take a while for you to realise that what's happened to you is sexual assault or rape. Your rapist may try tell you it wasn’t rape. But if you didn’t want it and they forced it – it is rape.


You are never responsible for being raped. If you think you have been raped, go to a clinic immediately. They will give you free medications to reduce your risk of HIV infection and becoming pregnant. Then report it to Victim Friendly Unit at a police station.
